Our amazing team of part-time volunteers are committed to helping others and seeking book donations. Our volunteers include student-athletes, teachers, college students, and community members. Our volunteer work was founded in Blacksburg, Virginia and has expanded across the southeast.
Seeing the need for increasing interaction between students and reading, Coach Frank Beamer, head coach of Virginia Tech Football for 29 years, founded Herma's Readers in 2008. Our organization was founded as a tribute to Beamer's mother, an educator for over 30 years.
Books play a powerful role in helping children succeed. Children find heroes and inspiration in their favorite stories. Through reading, books help young minds to unlock their imaginations and reach their full potential. Herma's Readers seeks to promote literacy among elementary aged students through the joy of reading and book donations.
Your support and contributions will enable us to meet our goals and improve conditions. Your generous donation will fund our mission. Our organization donates funds to First Book who then work to distribute funds to lower income level elementary schools.
